Alan was born at home (3 Staithes Avenue) and always slightly backward. My recollection of him was that he was a lovely lad who would do anything for you. He eventually ended up in state care where he met and married his wife. She was of a similar disposition and also in state care. They had at least one child a son and (possibly a daughter). The boy and presumably the girl were taken into care. I believe the boy, Anthony Butcher, was later adopted by others. Alan passed away a couple of years ago and was cremated at Newcastle Upon Tyne Crematoria. His wife is in care, as far as I know at at Morpeth.
